The first day of your TOPdesk life

The time has come. The first Monday of the month. The day when you hear an air raid siren wailing at noon. And this month it signals the start of your new life! Or, slightly less theatrically: it’s the first day of your career at TOPdesk! Curious about what you’ll experience on your onboarding day? Be sure to read on.

OK. So, your first day at TOPdesk. It starts at 10 am. Enough time for a sandwich and a cup of coffee at home. Or you can grab that coffee at the office when you arrive. After all, there’s plenty of choice waiting for you. We’re happy to treat you to a nice cup of coffee – or freshly brewed tea – at our coffee bar. Fancy some fizzy water? Done. A slushy or iced coffee when it’s hot? Also no problem.

Ready newbies? Start unpacking

While you get to know your fellow newbies, it’s the ideal time to unpack your TOPdesk welcome package. In it you’ll find (among other things) a TOPdesk drink bottle, some sweets, and oh yes, useful stuff too! From a working-from-home booklet and a pen to your NS-Business Card (for public transport) and building access pass.

The first session of the day? You spend it with our ICT experts. We won’t throw you in at the deep end with your new TOPdesk laptop. Instead, we dive straight into explaining the TOPdesk network and all the programs you need to use. So on Tuesday, you’ll know how to access JIRA, how to navigate around TOPdesk to provide support, and where, as a brand-new designer, you can take a peek at what your colleagues have already created.

On your first day, you immediately have your picture taken by TOPdesk photographer Paulien, and around noon you can enjoy your first delicious TOPdesk lunch. Lunch is a real treat because at TOPdesk it’s free every day! The buffet opens at noon and offers something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for a vegetarian sandwich, a hot snack or just a quick bite of salad.

Expectations – the fourth value

In the afternoon, things really get moving. Don’t underestimate the importance of getting to know your new working environment! TOPdesk believes it’s extremely important to take the time to do this and that you don’t feel under any unnecessary pressure. That’s why this is stressed in HR’s welcome session that starts at 1 pm. Of course, you already know about TOPdesk’s three core values: freedom, responsibility and trust; in the HR session, the fourth value – expectations – comes into play.

The rest of your first TOPdesk day follows a similar pattern: sessions in which you mainly learn about what lies ahead – and especially what doesn’t. In the culture session, Frits from HR explains what TOPdesk’s culture and three values really mean. And in the career path session, Talent Lead Luke tells you all about the many career opportunities at TOPdesk. If all goes well, you’ll also get to chat with your Talent Lead!
