How do we work?

And how does that typical culture come into play when we work? Let’s start as if this is your first day on the job. Who will you meet?

Back to overview

Talent lead

On your first day you’ll meet a lot of new people. Some familiar faces from recruitment, some new faces from your department and one of those faces you’ll see weekly: your talent lead. What is that, you say? A talent lead helps you on an individual level and helps you find your strengths and how to use them. It’s the one to go to with your career plans, ambitions and goals. They will help you achieve those, align them with the company goals, question them and encourages you to keep your eyes on the prize!

Your talent lead is also the one that will do your appraisal every six months. Together you will look back at what you have accomplished and into the future towards the goal you’re working on.

Together with your talent lead you will look back at what you have accomplished and into the future towards the goal you’re working on.

Teams, guilds and business units

How to explain the different groups within TOPdesk?  We work in teams, guilds and business units. In those groups you work towards a designated goal, the only difference is the composition of the groups. For example: what are the differences between a team and a guild? In a team you work together towards the same goal(s). To illustrate: at TOPdesk there’s an HR team that wants to realize a great place to work for all our colleagues. They work together to make this a reality, by making sure this document is made, joining your appraisal meeting, figuring out how to help you when you’re looking for new challenges.

At the same time those individual HR-colleagues can be a part of a guild. Some TOPdesk HR-advisors are also talent leads. So let’s dive into the talent lead guild they’re a part of. In this guild talent leads come together to specialize in the role. They meet and talk about how to make sure all talent leads validate colleagues the same way, decide what the skillset must be for a perfect talent lead and discuss difficulties they encounter on a daily. The members of this talent lead guild are usually from all different kinds of areas within TOPdesk.

And business units? Business units are multidisciplinary groups that include support employees, consultants, business unit marketeers, customer success managers and business development managers. These business units work together closely with all the participating disciplines to realize excellent service for specific customer groups. You can imagine not all customers have the same needs and wishes, hence the business units. By concentrating on one customer group, you can specialize in their specific needs. What the different business units are? Education, local government, national government, global accounts, industry and retail, finance and legal, healthcare and managed service provider.

Team coordinators have a short line with recruitment, talent leads and HR to make sure TOPdesk employees are the happiest employees!

Team coordinators

In those business units there’s also a team coordinator in place. Business units have a yearly plan with goals and targets. So, what will a team coordinator do? Make sure that the people in their business unit are happy with their job. And investigate the goals and direction of the team. Do we want to double our customer base? Then we can assume the business unit needs more sales and consultancy colleagues… Or check how to automate stuff, hire external agencies or involve marketers to accomplish the said goals. Team coordinators have a short line with recruitment, talent leads and HR to make sure TOPdesk employees are the happiest employees! What the difference is with talent leads? Team coordinators don’t appraise you. They just make sure your team is working to the best of their abilities.
