Three golden job application tips
Yes! You’ve found your perfect job. Time to get that application sorted and maximize your chances of scoring your dream job. But while you open your laptop, you think: what next? Here are three golden job application tips.
Tip 1: The perfect CV
Present your experience clearly and logically. This will help make sure that your profile matches the role you’re applying for. Use a simple and consistent layout that displays all your information in a well-structured way. For example, use bullet points to sum up your work experience. What did you do, think about and initiate at previous employers?
Your most recent experience comes first. Was it a job? Start your CV with your work experience. Was it a study? Start with an overview of your education to date. The more recent the study, the more detailed your description should be.
Are you applying for a job as a developer and have you worked in development before? List the languages you’ve worked with at the top of your CV.
Tip 2: Write a personal letter
Your letter should complement your CV, not repeat it. Explain why you are applying for the role and why you’re keen to work for our organization. For example, why do you think you’re a match with TOPdesk?
Use brief examples to describe your key competencies and experience. This will place your experience in the relevant context. Of course, we will come back to this in the job interview, but a personal letter gives us a head start.
You can also briefly mention any interesting activities you do or have done outside your studies or work. Do you play sports, what are your hobbies or where do you volunteer? These pastimes often reveal a lot about your personality.
Tip 3: Think about what you want to ask
When you apply, you may know exactly why you want the job, but a lot of questions are bound to crop up. What is the onboarding process like? And how do you keep your knowledge up to date? Who are your future colleagues, and do they ever do fun things together?
Write down all your questions and bring them along to your interview – we’ll be glad to make time for them. Are there any pressing questions you want answered before going to your interview? Just give our recruiters a call, sign up for our introductory lunch, or drop by for a coffee.
