How a TOPdesk introductory lunch can lead to a job

We regularly organize introductory lunches at our headquarters in Delft. The idea? To find out more about TOPdesk, our company culture and vacancies. And, of course, to get to know potential colleagues! Emile Timmers and Anouk de Vogel joined us for lunch and got exciting jobs out of it.

A look behind the scenes

Every introductory lunch starts with a guided tour. Our office is where we work hard every day on our service management software, TOPdesk, and keep in close contact with colleagues and users worldwide. Four floors full of flexible workstations, meeting rooms and a lunch area with a bar. All this is connected by a large staircase that also serves as a grandstand for presentations and events – from in-house days to pub quizzes.

Anouk enjoyed the tour of the building: “It’s nice to see all the people who are actually behind a tool like TOPdesk. I immediately felt a great atmosphere in all the teams: professional, but very open and friendly. I really value that.”

Taste the atmosphere

You’ll only meet experienced experts at our lunch meet & greets. These TOPdeskers come from all across our organization and can tell you everything about their specific role. And any one of them can also easily answer questions about terms of employment and the 10 to Grow personal development budget.

Emile: “There’s a lot of time to chat with colleagues. I not only talked to a colleague from sales and consultancy, but also to people from support. Over a game of foosball, they explained to me what TOPdesk as a product is all about – down to the tiniest detail. I didn’t know anything about it yet. I asked myself the question: do I fit in with these people? The answer was ‘Yes’. I could also see myself having a beer with the TOPdesk colleagues who were at the lunch.”

A nice lunch and also a good way to get to know TOPdesk and taste the atmosphere.

Lunch!

Not a small thing: we serve organic food at lunch. It’s not just for those who still need convincing. Everyone at TOPdesk can enjoy a free lunch buffet at the office. Salads, soup, sandwiches, a hot meal; vegan and vegetarian food always in abundance for those who prefer it. It’s how we power up to get through the day.

Focused job application

Thanks to the introductory lunch, Emile was able to send a much better-focused cover letter. He knew exactly what we were looking for and could argue why he would fit in at TOPdesk.
“You have to be able to handle freedom and responsibility – I’d never have known that if I hadn’t gone to the lunch. I was tossing up between consultant and account manager. In the end, I referred to both in my letter. I received a nice e-mail back from TOPdesk. I was invited for an interview where we would find out what would suit me best, consultancy or sales. A friendly, open manner. Genuinely TOPdesk,” according to Emile.

TOPdesk leren kennen

Anouk knew immediately that she wanted to work as a consultant. After the lunch, she launched straight into applying. “I went to the introductory lunch so I could get to know the company. I instantly felt comfortable there. During the lunch, I talked to a few consultants. You can recognize the TOPdesk type at once. If it clicks with them, you’ll be fine with most of your colleagues. So I definitely recommend the introductory lunches. They give you a good picture and a feel of the company. You can’t describe that in a vacancy or on the website. You just have to experience it.”

There’s no doubt that such in-depth introductions bear fruit. Years later, Emile is now head of business strategy in TOPdesk Netherlands’ management team. Anouk has moved to the role of scrum master after five years as a service management consultant.
