What are you going to do?
Enabling our customers’ organisations to continue to grow! The ‘formal description’ is that as a cloud engineer, you’ll be responsible for a stable infrastructure on which we run our customer environments. But we’re not that formal. So, how would we describe what we do? The SaaS Platform team works with cutting-edge technology, and that’s pretty cool. We host over 7000 customer environments that are updated twice a week and require 24/7 uptime. That’s why we’re constantly challenging ourselves to see if we can go faster or make improvements.
Integrating operational work with engineering tasks and being on call 24/7 requires careful coordination. Imagine a dynamic workplace where we do our engineering work by sprinting through tasks in a Scrum fashion while operational tasks are managed with Kanban’s flexibility. Night shifts ensure round-the-clock support for critical tasks. Clear communication and mutual respect between teams are vital to the success of this hybrid approach.
Tech Stack
Do you have relevant technical experience? Then this list will give you an idea of the tools and processes you’ll work with as a cloud engineer: provisioning (Terraform), configuration (Puppet, Ansible), containerization (Kubernetes, Azure AKS), block- and object storage, Elasticsearch, observability (Influx, VictoriaMetrics, Nagios etc.), Python and more. We use these technologies on Windows and Linux servers, MS SQL databases, firewalls and VPN servers. But, it’s not about what we currently use. It’s about a curious mind and an abstract way of thinking.
Where will you be working?
At TOPdesks headquarters in Delft! As a cloud engineer, you’ll join one of our 4 SaaS platform teams, which have 27 members in total. We are social technicians with much love for what we do, and we find it essential to be open with each other, which also means giving feedback. In our team, we can say anything, and we always listen to each other.
Our work is guided by agile principles, a framework you’re likely familiar with. We are constantly engaged in tasks related to maintenance, improvement, and efficiency. As a team, we prioritize tasks from our backlog and deliver on them during our 2-week sprints. Regular retrospectives help us identify areas for improvement and keep us agile.
We expect you and the team to be playful but responsible with technology. In the interview, we’d like to hear about what you’ve discovered and implemented in your previous or current job.
