Illness and medical appointments
In a utopia you’ll never get ill, but we do know that wonderful place does not exist. So although we hope you’ll be spared of illness and medical appointments as much as possible, we do want to inform you about what you can expect once you become unable to work (for a long period).
Calling in sick
A summer cold? Or a winter flu? Inform your talent lead before 9.30 AM that you won’t be able to make it to work this day. Your talent lead unavailable? Report to HR (internal only) to let them know. Are you a consultant? Call in sick with Project Coordination(internal only), they’ll notify your customers. Don’t worry about the end of the month, we will pay you 100% of your regular salary from the first sick-day. We appreciate it if you can tell us what’s wrong, but you’re not required to. If we do know what’s up, however, we can check if there’s anything TOPdesk can do if your symptoms are related to work. We also would like to stay in touch during your absence, so it’s helpful to know how we can reach you. Do you have an indication on how long you’ll be out of the running? Let us know. Is there a third party liable for the consequences of your possible disability? Perhaps we can help.
Getting sick is horrible at itself but getting sick during your well-deserved holiday is even worse! Did this happen to you? Call in sick and the day will be written as a sick day, instead of a vacation day. Why? We believe your days off should be for relaxation and to get your mind off work. This will go through the same process as a ‘regular’ sick day: contact your talent lead or HR. If this is not possible, but you do have seen a doctor, you can alternatively hand in a medical statement afterwards if you want your days off to count as sick days. This statement should contain the cause and starting of your inability to work, and if applicable the date of recovery.
Do you want to go on a holiday, while you’re unable to work? Please contact HR as different regulations apply.
Medical appointment or specialist visit during work hours
We prefer you schedule medical appointments outside working hours as much as possible. If you do need to visit a doctor or specialist during work hours, you need to take that time off or compensate the hours during the same week. Logically, there are always a few exceptions to this rule, like medical emergencies and certain appointments related to pregnancy and a visit to a specialist concerning your physical health in case you are referred for medical reasons by the general practitioner. You can always reach out to HR to talk about your own situation.
Long-term illness
If you become unable to work for a long period of time, first: just know we will be there for you. What do you need to do? Contact your talent lead and HR. Then TOPdesk will reach out to a medical examiner from our Arbo service provider. The medical examiner will advise both you and TOPdesk within six weeks on how to get back to work after your recovery. You and TOPdesk will then create an action plan. We will do our best to help you with your recovery and consider reintegration as a collaboration.
As soon as you come back to work, you report your (partial) recovery to your talent lead and HR. If you can’t come back to work either full-time or part-time after two years, you become eligible for a benefit according to the Dutch Work and Income Act.
Salary during illness
If you are unable to do your work because of a long-term illness, you are entitled to 70% of your salary for at least two years. For the first year, TOPdesk will generally keep paying you 100% of your last earned salary if you cooperate with the recovery plan. During the second year of illness, you will get paid 70% over the hours you are registered as sick.
