Here you will find information on how your career at TOPdesk can progress. First of all, we would like to give you our two definitions of career.
Since you first have to get to know our software and the processes in your department, you will primarily develop in the area of specialist careers in your early days with us. In general, the career options at TOPdesk are very diverse and you will be given a lot of freedom to contribute based on your interests and skills. The type of career and further development you wish to pursue is therefore largely up to you. In the following, we would like to show you some of the ways in which we can support you in your development. To do this, we will first clarify a few terms.
A Team Lead is the manager of a department. Examples of this role at our company include CengizB (Sales), SteffenG (Consulting) or FlorianHa (Support). As a formal supervisor, each Teamlead holds regular meetings with the team. Typical contents are current topics of the daily work routine and the joint definition of goals.
The Talent Lead is your personal manager and supervisor. He discusses current topics of your daily work routine with you and sets goals together with you. Some Talent Leads – such as CengizB (Sales) or FlorianHa (Support) – lead an entire department as Team Lead. Others lead a smaller, sometimes interdisciplinary team of employees. This is the case, for example, in the development department. While most Talent Leads also take care of the professional development of their team members, there is e.g. in consulting the Talent Coach as the link responsible for this.
Compared to a Team or Talent Lead, a Talent Coach is not your manager, i.e. formally not superior to you. However, it is usually an employee with a lot of TOPdesk experience and high social competence. You discuss your professional development with your Talent Coach. He or she is also your first point of contact if you are feeling under the weather. In consulting, for example, PedroL or Felix Ha have this role.

Throughout the year, your Talent Lead and/or Talent Coach will have regular conversations with you to support your development at TOPdesk and give you feedback on your performance. The rhythm of these so-called 1on1 conversations varies according to your own needs. However, you should get the opportunity to have such a conversation at least once a month. Typically, you will talk about topics such as your current mood, topics related to your daily work, your development and set goals together. To ensure a certain consistency and to be able to follow up the conversations, there is a conversation sheet for the 1on1 conversations.
After six months or always halfway through the year, a so-called half-year or feedback meeting (FG) takes place instead of a 1on1. In this meeting, you reflect on the past six months together with your Talent Lead, Team Lead and, if available, Talent Coach. Before the meeting, you will be asked for feedback on your work performance from your colleagues. In the FG, you receive feedback from your managers on your work performance over the past six months and together you set goals for the coming six months. The appraisal thus serves as preparation for the annual appraisal meeting and to determine whether your performance is on track.
The annual appraisal interview is similar in structure to the appraisal interview. The important difference is that your salary for the next year is also discussed in the appraisal interview. Depending on whether you have not achieved, achieved or even exceeded your goals and the expectations placed on you, your salary for the coming year will be adjusted.

At TOPdesk, you are given a lot of freedom in your daily work. Your Talent Lead is always available to answer your questions, but will not constantly look over your shoulder and monitor your work.
Especially if you work in a team that is spread over several locations, it can sometimes be difficult for your Talent Lead to assess your work performance. The people who can do this best are the members of your team with whom you work on a daily basis.
Therefore, it is critical to your professional development that you seek regular feedback from these same team members. Constructive feedback can only help you grow. So it’s best to get this feedback on a regular basis. At the latest before your FG and BG, you will be asked for it by your Talent Lead anyway.
You will learn how to give and collect feedback properly in a feedback training course that you will receive as part of your induction at our company. This brings us directly to the next topic.

TOPdesk has an internal training platform called TOPtraining.
The platform is currently still mainly used by the Dutch headquarters for local training. However, for different departments such as Support, Consultancy and Development, there are Growth Paths with relevant online trainings. It is best to talk to your Buddy and/or Talent Lead if trainings on this platform are useful for you and your induction.
Depending on which professional or social skills you would like to (further) develop in coordination with your Talent Lead, TOPdesk offers you various opportunities in the area of Human Resources (HR). This area is currently being reorganized under FabianK.
We are currently working on a cooperation with an external learning platform that we want to make available to all employees in the future. If you have any questions about Learning & Development, please don’t hesitate to contact FabianK from the HR department as well as your Buddy and Talent Lead.
