5 Tips for Preparing for a Virtual Interview
An online job interview is somewhat different from what we’re used to. You need to prepare for an in-office interview, but there are a few additional aspects to consider for an online interview. Based on our experience, we’d like to share five tips with you to ensure we can easily get to know each other during the online interview.

1. Test Your Equipment
Does everything work properly: the camera, microphone, internet connection, and software? Of course, we understand if something isn’t perfect, but you’ll be much calmer and more confident if you test them before the interview. Try it out with someone before the conversation to ensure they can see and hear you well.
2. Find a Quiet Place and Eliminate Distractions
For example, if only the application used for the interview is running on your computer, there won’t be any other apps to divert your attention from the conversation. Find a place where no one will disturb you, and where you won’t disturb others. This way, you don’t have to worry about what you say or how loud you speak, and you won’t be distracted if someone appears behind you in the background and you see them on your screen. We all know this scene, right?
Of course, we are very curious about you: where you live, what your important belongings are, a personal painting or a favorite ornament can tell us a lot about you. Naturally, this doesn’t mean we want to see your dirty dishes. Just think about what you want to show about yourself.
3. Be Clearly Visible
Since part of non-verbal communication is missing, it’s very important that we can see you well. Ensure that your upper body is clearly visible and look into the camera. This might feel unusual, but it makes connecting easier.
4. Prepare the Same Way as Usual
Ideally, a virtual interview isn’t much different from a face-to-face meeting. We are just as curious about your experiences, so we will certainly ask about them, and we want to answer all the questions you may have. Dress the same way you would for an office interview, and dress fully, so you truly feel like you’re interviewing. This way, you won’t find yourself needing to stand up for something while wearing pajama pants.
5. Stay Open and Be Yourself
We understand that a virtual job interview can feel unusual and has certain limitations. Let us know if there’s something you don’t understand or if you would like to take notes during the interview, so we can accommodate that. Also, let us know if this method of interviewing is not suitable for you. In that case, we will try to find another solution. We hope these tips help you prepare for the interview!
